Case Study

Western Tunnelling Package

Select was approached by Gamuda Laing O’Rourke Consortium (GLC) to assist with delivering the logistics package of works on the Western Tunnelling Package for Sydney Metro.

We have extensive experience managing complex logistical operations on major projects and have developed numerous solutions for Sydney Metro.

To ensure success, we embedded an experienced logistics team into the project.

Our turnkey solution provided the consortium with:

  1. A tailored overall strategy for project logistics: developed and implemented by the team, enabling the consortium to not only meet their contractual obligations but exceed them, driving continual improvement and challenging the industry.

  2. A real-time spoil management tracking process: the real-time tracking of over three million tonnes of spoil enabled a reduction in administration and commercial resources, whilst also ensuring Heavy Vehicle National Law, Chain of Responsibility and Environmental obligations were met.

  3. Onboarding of all plant and heavy vehicles: guaranteeing legislative requirements and the project’s minimum standards were met. This involved onboarding over 4,000 heavy vehicles and 300 pieces of plant and machinery.

  4. Scheduling, forecasting and coordinating day-to-day operations across six live sites: working closely with construction teams, developing daily delivery schedules, material movements schedules, crane schedules and hoist schedules to ensure works were completed safely and productively.
