Australia, 14 June 2023: Select Plant Australia is pleased to announce Australia’s first two 250t electric crawler cranes have arrived and been commissioned, ready for hire.

Currently, in the Malaga Depot in Perth and the Seven Hills Depot in Sydney, the Liebherr LR1250.1 unplugged cranes are part of Select's efforts to lead the market towards a more sustainable future.

The cranes are a flagship product in Select’s modern electric fleet, signalling the company's ambitions to be the provider of choice to the Australian construction market.

Together with its parent company Laing O'Rourke, Select has pledged to reduce scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions to reach operational net zero by 2030 and become a net zero company by 2050.

The Liebherr LR1250.1 fully electric lattice jib crawler cranes produce zero emissions while offering the same performance as their diesel-powered counterparts. The battery also means lower maintenance costs and savings on fuel expenses. The crane is noticeably quieter than the diesel model, which will assist metro projects trying to decrease their noise pollution.

“The 250t electric crawler crane is the first investment for its type for the Australian construction sector and is a tangible step towards achieving our net zero targets,” said Nathan Mitschuinig, Business Unit Leader, Select Plant Australia.

“Our electric plant and equipment range is growing weekly with low and zero-emissions options. We continue to drive cost and program efficiency for our customers whilst improving sustainability outcomes.”
