At Select we take our corporate responsibilities seriously. One aspect of this is to take an active involvement in the management of our environmental impact in order to ensure that it is controlled and reduced wherever opportunities to do so are identified.
Clearly it is necessary for us to work in accordance with the full range of Environmental Legislation in areas such as pollution prevention, waste management etc, however we aim to go further than this and strive to improve our performance; specific examples of recent and current initiatives are as follows:
- Waste reduction and recycling – we are working to minimise the quantity of waste sent to landfill and increase the amount of waste recycled by improving management procedures, providing additional facilities within our depots and engaging all staff and with local recycling companies. As a result of our efforts, we have seen a marked increase in recycling.
- Energy and resources use – we have installed a number of energy saving devices throughout our site facilities and are trialling a number of additional devices. We are committed to monitoring and reducing the amount of energy, water, etc., used by our operations. aare aware of the requirement to monitor and reduce the amount of energy, water etc used by our operations. Site facilities are supplied with a range of energy savings features as standard and further developments are being trialled.
- Control of vehicle use – In order to ensure that our nationwide network of Depots are able to communicate without reliance on road travel we actively promote the use of voice and video conferencing. This is aimed at reduction of both our Carbon Footprint and the amount of hours spent on the road by our employees.

In the longer term, companies and individuals are measured on the positive legacy they leave behind, not the profits they make. Profits are incredibly important as they allow companies to prosper and provide the means for personal and corporate growth, but longer term legacy is measured in the careers we build for our people and the improvements in the quality of life we make for this generation and those to come.
